Surprise yourself, indeed. As usual, you manage to bring me to the brink of tears, yet inspire me nonetheless. I look forward to the surprises you have in store for yourself—and your readers.

As you know, I think you are a very talented and lyrical writer. At times your prose reads like poetry. You deserve a wider audience. I suppose there are a lot of talented writers who fit the same category. But you've reached the point where you need to turn your observations on the natural and internal worlds to a new subject. I can see you wandering the country and writing a travel blog about national parks and people and how America has changed during the course of your life. I've had this idea myself, and called it "Boomer Sunset." Just too busy with other projects to make it happen. But ya never know. I do believe you need to bid a fond adieu to Taos. Too many memories, too much of the Taos that only locals see. Seems incompatible with where your life is right now and where you seem to want it to go. Either way, I'm looking forward to meeting up with you one day soon.

Hi John,

Sounds like you are taking time to continue to process your grief and being in nature in NM is always a great place to be under any circumstances. I have started over again alone a couple of times but always after receiving "guidance" from whoever loves me on the other side. It can sometimes come out of the blue like when I was told to move to Santa Fe in 1995 and back to Wisconsin back in 2002. The move to Seattle after my mother died in 2015 was a bit different -- my sons and their families are here (also transplants) so it was more of a conscious decision. It's gorgeous here and very much like NM for a few months every summer -- dry and sunny. Glad you are keeping us all up to date on your life there. Best wishes, Mary Vigdor
